Quite recently, President Donald Trump's "Sh*t hole" comments attracted a lot of debate globally. It is interesting to note that while many feel it is disrespectful to refer to developing countries in that manner, there is the school of thought that as profane as it sounds, what POTUS Trump said is not further from the truth. Again, many have also expressed the opinion that it is not the countries per se that are "sh*t holes" but the leaders of those countries. In this article, I write on the good that can actually come out of sh*t holes.
If you are a student of the Bible, you probably would have read in the New Testament of Nathaniel asking whether anything good can come out of Nazareth. The reason why he asked that question was because he did not consider Nazareth worthy enough to produce the Messiah. History has it that Nazareth was not a town to be reckoned with in biblical Israel. It was not associated with any of the prophets and so had no reputation. It could be likened to POTUS Trump's 'sh*t hole.'
The picture above is a community newsletter sent to members of the Isleworth community having close proximity to the Thames Water Treatment Plant. Thames Water is generating electric power from "POO." In case, you do not get it, 'POO' comes from 'sh*t holes.' It shows that 'sh*t holes' are not to be looked down upon because they have great potentials.
Some years ago, I attended a course sponsored by my former employers. I remember with nostalgia one of the stories the resource person told the class. She was speaking on having respect for other people and never feeling that others are less important. She told us about a meeting held somewhere and in attendance were all the important members of the human body. In attendance were Mr Heart, Mr Kidney, Mrs Lung, Mrs Liver, Ms Vein, Mr Eye, Mr Nose, Ms Ear. Without any invitation extended to him, Mr Sh*t Hole turned up for the meeting. Everyone was boasting that s/he was the most important member of the human body. When Mr. Sh*t Hole wanted to talk, he was asked to keep quiet. And so he went on strike. The other members of the human body had to beg Mr. Sh*t Hole to call off the strike or else there will be disaster.
The leaders of the countries who are angry with POTUS Trump for the statement should go back like Mr Sh*t Hole in the story above and do something like Thames Water has done to show that something good can come forth from the sh*t hole.
