DOCTORS AT THE JOS UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL (JUTH) PROTESTS WITH MOCK COFFIN

Resident doctors working at the Jos University Teaching Hospital on Wednesday embarked on a protest to demand an end to the dictatorial administration of the chief medical director of the institution, Prof Edmund Banwat.

The doctors took to the streets as early as 0800 hours with a mock coffin. They thereafter moved to the Pharmacy section of the Hospital with several placards bearing inscriptions such as "Prof Banwat, your tenure as CMD is over!', 'Rest in peace to the many souls killed by bad leadership' , 'Obey court order!', 'stop ilegal sacking of resident doctors; and 'vacate office your tenure is over.'

The grievances of the resident doctors include the alleged disregard for an order of the national industrial court which vitiated the sacking of doctors at JUTH and a draconian policy of no work no pay contrary to signed agreements with the doctors as well as exclusion of the names of some staff from the nominal roll for October 2017.
