Embattled President Jacob Zuma of South Africa was on Tuesday asked to step down by his party the African National Congress (ANC). The party asked the president to resign within 48 hours. In the event of his refusal to resign, the party threatens to 'humiliate' Mr Zuma by being 'recalled' from office. This followed a visit to Mr Zuma's residence by the new leader, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa.
The London Evening Standard reports that President Zuma has insisted that he would not resign from office. He is quoted to have said "Do what you have to do, but I am not resigning."
