In recent times, there has been a lot of criticisms against ministries that invite comedians or actors or secular artistes to church programmes. Many including some ministers of the gospel have described the trend as introducing the world to the church. It was not uncommon for on air personality, Daddy Freeze, one known to be in the fore front of a 'social media' confrontation against pastors whom he disagrees with to criticise the invitation of Majek Fashek to the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) Abuja.
While the argument that bringing secular artistes or comedians to the church is making the church worldly easily appeals to the emotions of some believers who argue that the church must not mix with the world, believers need to ask themselves what the impact of such invites truly is. It is easy to say that such invitations are meant to attract crowds to church programmes. This is true but it is not always the case. The case of Majek Fashek in COZA is a clear example of the role the church can play in the rehabilitation of people who need help. It was an opportunity to show love to Majek, it was an opportunity for Majek to be in church. The next question is what type of music did he play if he was allowed the opportunity to sing while he was in church? Definitely, Majek was not allowed to lead worship but to share a message which he definitely could could pass across as a song.
Many people do not understand what church is. The church stands for rehabilitation. It provides avenue for support, for love and for fellowship. Yes, there is time for worship, time for praise, time for the word but church is also family.
While Jesus was on earth he was having 'church time' with tax collectors and sinners. The Pharisees condemned him for being around such folks. The truth however, is that anytime there is an opportunity for a 'sinner' to be with the Lord, it is an opportunity for such a person to hear the gospel and to have fellowship. So long as profanity is not the order of the day and the name of the Lord is glorified, the church of God is for all! And yes, Majek is welcome to church anyday!
