A 72-year old Somalian asylum seeker in the UK, Mr Mohamed Qoomall has been jailed for receiving benefits amounting nearly to £40,000.
Mr Qoomall had arrived the UK in 2002 claiming that he feared for his life back in Somalia. He however, traveled secretly to Somalia in 2013 because his missed the 'sunshine' back home. He allowed his friend live rent-free in his council funded flat in North West London.
He was exposed when investigators wrote his house address requesting to see him. Him. He hurriedly returned to the UK after his pal notified him. He tried to fake an immigration stamp on his passport but it was discovered by eagle-eyed investigators. He was sentenced to 15 months in jail for admitting to two counts of dishonestly failing to notify the authorities of circumstances regarding pension credit and housing benefits from August 2013 to Febraury 2016.
